Norman Veerbeek interview!

Flying Dutchman Norman Veerbeek interview!
Check it out!

When was the first time you got on a bike?
At the age of four years.
What's your favourite trick?
Riga Mortis (Dead Body)
How do you prepare for a jump?
Mentally perform the trick step by step.
How do you prepare for a show?
Just normal training like always.
We saw a picture on your homepage with you jumping over a giant pool. Tell us!
This was a great show in Turkey. The 5star resort was filled with graduated students. We had to jump over this pool with all those people in it. It was awesome!
Why did you transfer to FMX?
MX was getting too expensive and I was always thrown of the track because I was doing simple tricks on the dirt jumps...
You're the only proffesional FMX rider in Holland. How does it feel to ride with all the other pros knowing that you're the only Dutch one?
It doesn't feel any different to ride with other pros. But for trainging it's a bit shitty not to have a trainingpartner nearby. Now I have to drive 2 hours to Belgium to be able to do some riding with my buddy William van den Putte.
In which event do you definitly want to participate in?
Extreme Freestylers!
Why those flashy green tires?
It was just a try out, looked funny but bad quality. Now I'm riding black tires from Conti again. Much better!
What was your worst injury?
A broken jaw.
How many bikes have you got?
Four Honda 450CRF
What goes through your mind when you see someone crashing?
Like Lusk or Deegan? I don't really watch it. One time I was standing besides the landing where Scott was attempting a double backflip. After the first rotation the feet came off and I knew it was going to be a big crash. At that time I kinda looked away... Unfortunately the crashes come with the sport, but I don't like to watch them or talk about it too much...
What are your plans for the future?
Pull more combos and ride bigger events!
What did your parents thought when you started pulling of tricks?
They wanted me to stop but I told my father that it was his own fault because he was the one who put me on a dirtbike when I was four years old ;)
Where do you practice?
Boxmeer (NL) and Genk (BE)
How many days a year are you abroad?
In the US? Only 2 weeks. I've got my first FMX show in the states on the 15th of April this year. I'm pumped!
Which trick do you definitly want to do someday?
Deadbody flip!
Tell us a bit about your first backflip, because you were the first Dutch rider that pulled of a backflip.
It started as a joke. Just trying some flips in the pit. Then William said: "Why don't try it on dirt?"
So I told him: "Okay, when I have done 5 flips in the pit.
After I did those flips... well, I couldn't go back!
Thanks to?
All my sponsors, my fiance and my brother.

Foampit or dirt? Dirt!
Backflip or Kiss of Death? Kiss of Death
Chill or competition? Competition
Deegan or Pastrana? Pastranad
Red Bull or Monster? Monster
Dead Body!

Check Norman's site for more information about him and his events!

Mikki Hirvonen is the first one to win a WRC of the new era on Rally Sweden!
Hirvonen took over the lead from Mads Ostberg this Saturday, and started the last day with only 7.4 seconds ahead of Ostberg. But Hirvonen almost doubled his lead, and while Ostberg tried to keep up, the Finn finished with 6.5 seconds advantage. Third place was for Latvala. Petter Solberg had his road license suspended after being caught speeding in their Citroën DS3 WRC car throug Gustavsfors and finished sixth in the overall standings. Ken Block managed to grab the 14th place in his Monster Energy Fiesta. To view the championship standings, click here!

Dew Tour finals

The Norwegian Torstein Hogmo won the last stop of the Winter Dew Tour, and became the winner of the Dew Cup! Torstein Hogmo was nearly guaranteed to win a Dew Cup. All he needed was to achieve the fifth place. The winner of the Slopestyle finals was Willet, with a score of 97.25 after a 5050 bs lipslide on the rail, to boardslide switch up fs boardslide on the Kink Rail, fs boardslide 450 out on the cannon looking thing. He pulled of a switch bs 12 double cork and a fs 10 double cork on the jumps.
The 17 year old Mark McMorris was the next one. He pulled of a 5050 transfer bs lipslide, fs boardslide 450 out on the battleship and a switch boardslide 270 out on the cannon. On the jumps he did a cab 12 double and a bs 12. His score was 95!
Torstein Hogmo did some pretty gnarly things too, scored 93.75 and got third!
Congratulations boys!!!

Second place was for Peetu Piroiinen with 88.67 points, and the bronze medal was for the Austrian Werner Stock, with 83.67 points. The one who stomped the first ever Cab 1440 Double Cork was Sage Kotsenburg from the USA. The Norwegian Torgeir Bergrem won the Rookie Challenge ahead of Patrick Burgener. Both claimed a spot in the top 16. Third place was for Jamie Nicholls. The afterparty was hosted by top DJs and live acts from Pennywise and Jan Delay.

Hirvonen grabs the lead in Sweden!

Defending winner Mikko Hirvonen has snatched the lead of the 2011 Rally Sweden from surprise package Mads Østberg as the event reaches its midway point and is fast developing into a four-way thriller – but the man really on the move is formerWorld Rally Champion Petter Solberg, who has slashed the deficit to the leading duo to barely half a minute.

Although Østberg led overnight, it is Hirvonen who has hit the front following Saturday morning's four-stage loop, as the Finn overturned his M-Sport Stobartrival's 14.8-second advantage to move ahead by a scant three tenths of a second in his new Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team Fiesta WRC. Hirvonen gained the most time on Østberg on SS8, the day's opening run through Lesjöfors.

“I didn't know how much loose snow there would be on the road,” explained the 2008 and 2009 World Rally Championship runner-up, speaking from the midday service halt at Hagfors. “There was some and I lost a little time by ploughing it, but there was nothing like as much as yesterday. The sun was still low on the second stage, and it wasn't easy driving into sixth-gear corners when I couldn't see where the road went.

“I've really tried to push hard, and some places are cleaning more than others. There is still a long way to go, but the car feels fantastic so there is no need to change anything and it's great fun being involved in such a big fight for the lead!”

Østberg revealed that he had been hampered by running first-on-the-road and as the effective snow plough through the icy, snowbound forests of central Sweden in temperatures of as low as -17ºC, as the Norwegian confessed that 'it's been really tricky at times' – before adding that he had actually 'expected to lose more time'.

Solberg remains third, although from being 57 seconds behind the leader in his privately-run Citroën DS3 WRC overnight, 'Hollywood' is now only 31 seconds adrift and fast homing in. The 36-year-old set the pace on two of Saturday morning's stages, and would have been even closer to Hirvonen and Østberg had it not been for a ten-second penalty for late arrival at the start of SS10. Palpably enjoying himself, the 13-time rally-winner insists that 'everything is possible' and 'we will keep pushing'.

Jari-Matti Latvala is fourth in the second works Ford entry, as the final competitor in a leading quartet covered by less than three-quarters-of-a-minute. Despite proving to be the very model of consistency with the third-quickest time on all four stages, still the 25-year-old admitted he was not wholly satisfied with his performance.

“I had a great feeling with the car and I enjoyed myself,” he remarked, “but when I saw drivers going faster than me, I pushed hard and became too aggressive. I found it difficult to calm down and settle into a good rhythm. During my test before the rally I had a smooth rhythm, and I need to find that again. It's not the car that's the problem – it's the driver! I should be fighting with Petter – so I need to improve.”

After fifth-placed Henning Solberg suffered a power-steering problem leaving service and subsequently rolled on Saturday's opening stage, Sébastien Ogier inherited the position, with the Frenchman now more than a minute-and-a-half ahead of Citroën Total World Rally Team team-mate, countryman and namesake Sébastien Loeb, who lost time when he hit a snow bank and picked up a puncture, though the WRC's 'record man' could at least take heart from setting the fastest time on SS8.
Per-Gunnar Andersson paced SS10 and set the second-best time on SS11 to move into seventh as he continues to recover from a troubled opening day, with compatriot Patik Sandell an impressive eighth in his Skoda Fabia. Former F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen runs ninth in his Ice 1 Racing Citroën DS3 WRC, ahead of runaway Production World Rally Championship leader Anders Grondal, who completes the top ten.

PWRC rival Patrik Flodin – the only man anywhere close to the Norwegian in the class – was excluded from the event after the wheel rims on his Subaru Impreza were found not to conform to technical regulations. Third-placed Valeriy Gorban stunned by claiming the fastest time of all on SS10 in his Mitsubishi Evo.

Matthew Wilson is twelfth, paying the price for a brace of hefty errors on SS10, Fredriksberg, but proving to be consistently inside the top ten elsewhere, whilst Ken Block lost two minutes when he went off the road on SS11, leaving the American 15th overall.
